KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - AESTHETICARE Kansas City’s Premier Medical Spa
Dr. Vanek and our office staff recently traveled to Kansas City to participate in a Laser Symposium.
After work on Thursday we left the office and drove to the Cleveland airport for our
departure flight to Kansas City. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Overland Park a beautiful town. The Aestheticare office was located about 4 blocks away where we spent all day Friday. A great facility with the most advanced equipment, including 18 FDA approved lasers and a staff that had an endless wealth of knowledge. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Thank you Matt and staff of Aestheticare!!

Breast Reduction Comment:
I have been thinking about a breast reduction for years. Once I decided to find out more information, it still took me over a year to make an appointment! After consultations with Dr. Vanek and Dr. Vanek’s staff, I made the decision to have the reduction. However, even the day before my surgery, I was still wondering if I was doing the right thing. It’s fine to look at pictures and talk with Dr. Vanek but it was hard for me to really grasp what the recovery and results would be like without experiencing it. I was very worried about the surgery itself but also the scars, the pain, and the final results. Two weeks after my surgery, I could not be happier. My anxiety and fear were much worse than the reality. I did not have any pain after the surgery and my scars are far more acceptable than I had imagined. I can honestly say I have not had a single minute where I have regretted my decision. I only regret not meeting Dr. Vanek sooner.

SCULPTRA, FDA approved injectable for facial rejuvenation
WILLOUGHBY, OH – Sculptra injectable is available in my office to use for facial rejuvenation. Injectable medical anti-aging treatment continues to respond to patient desires. The molecule, poly-L-lactic acid, has been used safely for the past 25 years as absorbable suture material. It works by stimulating your own collagen production in the face where aging lines and deep folds manifest because of collagen loss. Injectable Sculptra has been used widely in Europe for close to a decade. This treatment will allow gradual improvement in facial aging over a 3 month period. The effects last over 2 years. Juvederm and Restylane last about a year. Radiesse lasts for about 2 years. All are injected in an in-office procedure with local anesthesia. 71% of women surveyed preferred a longer lasting result that came on gradually. Sculptra does exactly that. Even when the effect wears off, you manifest more volume than your start point. The amount of agent to be injected is decided upon in your consultation and the three injections are about a month apart. It can be combined with lip enhancement or laser skin rejuvenation in the same treatment day.
Would you like to see gradual improvement in your facial aging? Contact my office about a Sculptra consultation. Look at PaulVanekMD.com for results you’ll love. Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. (440) 205 5750.

Some people may think that a Quick lift is something new. It is a repackaged name for a skin lift, called a Mac lift, that has been around since the early 70’s. Most board certified plastic surgeons agree that the SMAS lift is the gold standard lift against which all other rejuvenation procedures are compared. A skin lift under local anesthesia can be performed by me in a minor surgical setting. It requires no drains and has indeed a little quicker recovery than a more extensive architecture suspension seen with the SMAS lift. A short scar face lift is an even more limited procedure that has an incision that starts at the earlobe and stops at the top of the ear in the hair. This too can be done under straight local anesthesia. How much recovery time you may need and how much result you want will be discussed at the time of our consultation.
PS Some patients who have a few more days available for recovery can have their skin laser resurfaced at the same time as a facelift.

Mirror Imaging™ software has been a feature of my consultation process for facial rejuvenation procedures for years. I have found that showing you your image with the changes we have discussed allows us to create mutually attainable goals. I will listen carefully to you, examine you and make recommendations based upon your discussed priorities. Your digital photographs are then obtained for review and study. These photographs can be “morphed” or modified in order to simulate the outcome after swelling has subsided and healing has occurred. Your pictures in several views can be shown next to the digitally changed photographs for side-by-side comparison. My ability to obtain a surgical result is then discussed in the context of your features compared with the results seen in the before and after photographs of other actual patients with similar concerns who have already healed. In this combined method, you will be educated about the architectural features of your face and the results you wish to obtain. Many patients remark that they can see their own areas of concern in the photographs of others, and are reassured that the proposed facial rejuvenation procedures will address those concerns. Your sweetheart can be met with a “fuller lip” kissing experience this New Year’s eve after a simple injection of Restylane or Juvederm. The hyaluronic molecule is cross-linked to last about a year or so. It stays supple throughout the year and looks great even as you leave the office! As we age the mid-face loses fat volume which gives the mouth an aged appearance. Depending on your preference, the addition of volume can be dialed in to just alleviate wrinkles or escalated to tastefully enhance the overall volume of the lip appearance. The injection is performed under local and may have some bruising. Borrowing some from your tummy and transferring autologous fat to the lips gives an enhancement that lasts 5 or more years.
P.S. Microdroplet silicone is not approved by the FDA to be injected in the lips.
Wishing for fuller lips? Call my office at 440 205 5750 for an appointment or visit my website PaulVanekMD.com to get more information. I am Board Certified by The American Board of Surgery and The American Board of Plastic Surgery. My office is located at Suite #100, 9485 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, OH 44060

Minus Eleven
For patients who have tired eyes and heavy brow furrows, a simple outpatient procedure can solve both problems under local anesthesia. The groove between our eyes above our nose can give a person a grumpy, unapproachable or tired look. These glabellar lines are sometimes termed the 11’s lines; and they have several options for treatment. Botox can reversibly treat them adequately, but a brief surgical procedure can eliminate them! Using the same incision as an upper lid lift, the muscles (called corrugators) in the brow furrow can be removed without an incision in the brow. The excess eyelid skin and fat is removed and then the muscles are accessed through the same incision for reduction. You have a softer, rested and approachable appearance in about a week. You can return to most activities in a few days after surgery.
PS While we have Botox every day for the furrows, it won’t change the heaviness that can be reversed surgically.
Got tired eyes? Please contact my office at (440) 205 5750 for a consultation to discuss your options! Go to PaulVanekMD.com to see results you’d love.

An exciting laser technology that actually works for tissue tightening is the new Sciton SkinTyte laser. The longer wavelengths traverse the skin to induce a post-treatment tightening. The infrared energy gets under the treated area without any surface wound and stimulates collagen remodeling and skin tightening. Unlike the poor-performance profile of Thermage, the SkinTyte laser has a predictable outcome and provides for a more comfortable patient experience. It does not have the risk of facial lipo-atrophy (a gaunt look) seen with the radio-frequency energy used in Thermage. A series of 5 SkinTyte treatments, each about a month apart, will dramatically improve the laxity of the face & neck. You’ll see the results within a few hours of treatment, and they improve over the next 2 to 3 weeks. While nothing beats the outcome of a facelift, the SkinTyte laser has literally no down time and requires no anesthesia. Patients who have treatments done on loose skin around their elbows and knees can see a great improvement as well.
P. S. SkinTyte laser can be combined with other laser energies that treat skin surface problems such as acne on the same treatment day for a great effect!

Midlife
Cosmetic enhancements peak in midlife because of the prevalence of divorces and younger girlfriends. And in a down economy, some men find themselves unemployed or competing with younger men for jobs and promotions.
By now, skin on the neck exceeds the ability of less-invasive means to improve the “gobbler.” But a brief anesthetic and outpatient neck lift with some liposelection of the neck can produce the appearance of youthfulness and significant weight loss, and restore vigor. Because fat cells enlarge rather than multiply with weight gain, surgically removed fat cells are gone forever. But what remains can enlarge, so Vanek counsels patients about diet, personal trainers and other activities.
The golden years
This is when some men make up for the recklessness of their 20s.
“Most men inquire about nose reshaping and brow lifts because they see that those are things they can’t change on their own,” Vanek says. Ten percent of facelifts and a quarter of nose-reshaping procedures (nose jobs) are now performed on men. Weaver says men in this age group want to remove age spots or fix broken capillaries.
Men want to look good. And these days, more are willing to pay for it.
