A modern facelift (rhytidectomy) can minimize jowls, a double chin, and the marionette lines around the mouth that develop as we age.  The procedure involves making an incision behind the hairline, beginning from the temple and extending down in a natural line to the front and bottom of the ear, around the earlobe, and into the hair behind the ear.  The skin is separated from the underlying muscle fascia and pulled back.  The underlying muscle and SMAS layer is tightened.  The neck is undermined in a similar way and redraped behind the ear, repositioning the hairline properly.  Excess tissue is removed in front and behind the ear.  Finally the incisions are closed with tissue glue and sutures. The Quick Lift extensively advertised is a skin tightening operation designed in the 1970’s that has been repackaged as something new- performed under local anesthesia.  Because the goal is “quick” the fascia is not tightened, so results are the same as a “mini lift” no matter what it’s called.

Pregnancy at any age can take its toll on the shape of your breasts or abdomen. More-so with each subsequent baby. Whether you are in your early 20’s or late 30’s it is still hard to get back the figure you had prior to pregnancy. I see the anguish and recrimination you go through thinking you can workout enough to make your stomach flat and your breasts firm up or gain more volume. Once you have lost the baby weight, if you are lucky enough to do so, your exercise efforts tone your muscles but do not restore the abdomen fascia to a flat state. Breast conservation and radiation is often an option for those who have invasive cancer. Often the irradiated breast looks symmetric with the untreated one for many years, but over time may shrink down and look different or hurt. Women who have an implant reconstruction can experience thickening of their breast capsule as a late consequence of irradiation. The solution to this is to import your natural tissue from the low abdomen and move it up into the breast area to give you a natural, supple, volume-matched result. It is called a TRAM breast reconstruction. An added bonus of TRAM reconstruction is that you get a tummy tuck out of the “donor site” in the low abdomen area. Some women do not opt for any reconstruction at the time of their mastectomy because they are so worried about just surviving the cancer and chemotherapy regimen. Associated with our changes of aging is the pressure we feel when re-union time rolls around.
