Peptides (from the Greek word “peptos” meaning digestible) are the family of short molecules formed from the linking of various amino acids.  Peptides work as signal molecules between the epidermis and dermis.  A class of lipo-peptides have recently found to attract cells to sites that need repair and contribute to the reconstruction of the dermis.  Controlled clinical studies of neuropeptides applied to the skin show a botox-like effect, especially around the eyes and forehead. Sun damage and aging combine on the upper lid skin to make it lax.  This loss of elasticity results in skin that rests on the upper eye lashes, blocking what you see.  An often-associated condition is lengthening of the fascia connecting the elevator muscle to the rim of the upper lid.  When this happens your eyelids appear droopy, impairing your field of vision.  This results in you having a tired and hooded look.  Inability to see above the horizon because your field of vision is obstructed makes it hard to see the world, the ball when you hit it down the fairway, etc.  These problems are evaluated in the consultation process and are often covered by your insurance to fix.  Lower eyelid laxity occurs with the same frequency and affects the appearance.  These procedures are often combined in the same minor surgery to haromonize your overall appearance.  Repairing the lid laxity will have a long-lasting, refreshing effect on function and appearance.

We arrived in Dallas Fort Worth Texas today.  We are here to visit CBI Laboratories in  Dallas Texas.  Our skin care line Vanek Cosmeceuticals is manufactured in Texas. Happy to be here, excited to explore the city, ready to head to the Stockyards and go to a real Rodeo. Tomorrow we will start our 2 day seminar on the latest clinical and aesthetic treatments, skin care product knowledge , formula characteristics and applications.

Lipoaspiration combined with lipoinjection is probably the best surgical option for the correction of contour defects of the extremities, augmentation of the buttocks, and rejuvenation of the face.  The basis for success in fat transfer is the use of harvested stem cells.  Cells from the fluid removed after VASER liposuction have been shown to be viable and readily transferable.  Since VASER lipo is a gentle technique and highly selective, the tissue aspirated is primarily fat cells that have been disjoined from their tissue matrix selectively by the VASER ultrasound.  Transfer to areas of body contour deficiency is likely to be successful in healthy people.  Fat transfer to the breast is slowly achieving acceptance in other parts of the world, but I don’t recommend it yet.  Combining fat transfer with facial rejuvenation yields beautiful, youthful restoration of appearance.  The local growth factors in the fat transfer actually thicken the dermis while the face surgery restores volume and contours.  Volume improvement seen by 3 months post op will likely persist for many years. 

 PS  Fat transfer to the lips and face can be done with sedation and local anesthesia.  The tummy is the most common donor site!

Dr. Vanek recently returned home to Mentor Ohio on Sunday night from his trip to Rome Italy. When asked Dr. Vanek said the trip was a very spiritual and uplifting experience.  He visited several sights of historical and religious nature.  He tour General Project a company in Chianti, where our VASER Shape – MC1 is manufactured.  He drank lots of Italian coffee and savored several varieties of gelato.  He made some new acquaintances along the way that we will keep in contact with for years to come.  Although Dr. Vanek has never been to Italy before he would love the opportunity to go back again. 

Dr. Vanek is happy to be back home and back to his practice at the Mentor Medical Campus. He missed doing what he loves: seeing patients and performing surgeries. Welcome home Dr. Vanek.

Dr. Vanek is visiting the General Project facility and their showrooms today. Based in Italy, from the Florentine hills of Chianti General Project has been designing and manufacturing IPL, LASER and Microdermabrasion systems for over 10 years.

Rome, Italy: Dr.Vanek and his daughter Elizabeth went to the Papal Audience at the Vatican this morning and received the blessing. They were 4 rows back from the stage.

Dr.Vanek writes: “Another glorious day at the Vatican. Had an anthropological tour of the crypt of the popes and a Scavi tour of St. Peter’s tomb”!

 Sounds like Dr.Vanek and Elizabeth are having a great time.  Enjoy! We miss you.

Dr. Vanek recently arrived in Italy for a working holiday.  Dr. Vanek and his daughter Elizabeth arrived in Rome Italy on Saturday.  They will sightsee for a couple days and then travel to Florence.  He will meet up with our Sound Surgical representative and another physician from the states.  They will have a few days with Italian physicians participating in VASER SHAPE (MC1) studies. 

We will continue to follow Dr. Vanek with photo documentation on his stay in Italy.

One of the basic science innovations seen with Vaser lipo is the knowledge that stem cells and viable adipocytes (fat cells) can be harvested from the fluid aspirated during the liposuction procedure. Transferring the enriched cells has been found to be great for enlarging the size of the buttock region.  The recovery is a few days of tender sitting and the enhancement lasts years! No implant is used and the incisions are 2 to 3mm in several sites.  Older fat transfer techniques have a lower likelihood of “graft take” because the harvest method is not as gentle or specific. The patient has one area treated with Vaser technique and then the cells are immediately processed and transferred to the area of the gluteal region.  A compression garment is worn for 6 weeks and one can shower the next day.  The final result manifests at about 3 months and is likely stable for years afterward.  Fat does not grow back from the donor site, so patients can expect a beautiful result in 2 areas!

PS It is ill advised presently to recommend fat transfers to the breast because it may interfere with mammogram interpretation. 

 Bottom too flat?

Women who have waited for decades after their children are born, hoping that their stomachs will flatten or their breasts will “come back up”, share a common sentiment- they are thrilled to hear that my practice can really make that happen!  No matter how many children you’ve had, each may take its toll on different body areas.  Weight gain and loss from pregnancy can contribute to the loss of muscle tone and elasticity of the tummy area which doesn’t always respond to exercise and diet.  This problem is correctible with a combination of Vaser lipo and a tummy tuck.  After breast feeding, some women dramatically deflate their breasts and lose shape which is readily remediated with a breast lift and sometimes an augmentation to restore them to pre-pregnancy shape.  Summer styles highlight thoughts of “time to get that done.” 

P.S.  71% of women surveyed who have had children agreed that they would undergo a cosmetic procedure to improve a change they experienced as a result of their pregnancy.
