News Herald Article-Lip Line Synergy

Non-invasive, non-surgical elements in tandem can yield a synergistic, more youthful appearance around the mouth. The makeup industry is a $4.2 billion effort dedicated to camouflaging progressively aging skin.  Actual physiologic improvement is the goal of plastic surgeons and biochemists like me.  Combining laser energy and lip filler modifies the tissues synergistically, solving the problem of lines around the mouth.  Lip filler (Juvederm) with a molecular content already found in your tissues (hyaluronic acid) gives you a more natural appearance and lasts about a year with a single treatment.   Using Profractional laser to instill a depot of energy deep into the dermis facilitates remodeling and plumping of the aged skin lines.  It heals in one day.  The volume enhancement injection and the laser-induced collagen formation make a result that is more natural, beautiful and long lasting.  The office procedure takes about 20 minutes with topical local.

P.S. SPF 15 to 25 and Kinerase Pro-T is used beginning 48 hours after the laser procedure. You can go out to dinner the next night!

FDA approval for Dupuytren’s Contracture

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Crooked Finger Fix -Recently the FDA has approved a non surgical option for the treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture. The collagenase enzyme has been around for a long time experimentally.  The clinical use of this biochemical agent involves an injection performed in the office to digest the cord collagen.  Patients who have contracture at the MCP (the knuckle) or at the PIP (the first joint) from Dupuytren’s fibrosis are candidates for the injection therapy.  The fibrosis in the palm is not as responsive to injection therapy and may require excisional surgery using tourniquet anesthesia.  Patients who have the finger contracture can be injected monthly up to three times.  The patient is seen the next day for a mobilization maneuver to hopefully break the cord.  Tendon rupture is a small risk of the injection, because it contains high collagen content and is in close proximity to the fibrotic cord in the finger.  I am credentialed in the safe use of Xiaflex™ collagenase injection.  The procedure is not cosmetic.

PS.   This injection therapy is ideal for elderly patients who might be on anti-platelet or Coumadin agents who don’t want to have surgical intervention.dupuytren-photo

Mentor, Ohio ProFractional Laser

Mentor, Ohio ProFractional Laser -A Springtime Sunburn

Emerging from the winter hibernation may make you feel like your skin could use some brightening and tightening.  Utilizing a revolutionary technology can really brighten the skin with a few days of down time.  A microlaser peel with erbium laser followed by a ProFractional laser treatment is called a “Mentor Peel”.  This takes advantage of removing surface irregularities with superficial erbium laser energy. In the same treatment session the ProFractional laser energy places a depot of energy deep into the dermis.  It does this through a pore size laser spot that treats 11% of the skin, leaving 89% of the skin undisturbed for healing in one day!  Think of it like lawn aeration.   Your friends will think you had sunburn over the next 3 days or so until you heal.  The patient is treated with a high tech, safe cooling device for the microlaser peel, and then anesthetized with topical local for a comfortable second phase profractional laser.  No injections. Just walk into the office and walk out on your way to remodeled, youthful skin.

PS

About 5 days after your first session you can go out in the sun with SPF 25 sun block.  Make-up covers the red by the 3rd day after the “Mentor Peel” until it fades.

Lake County Brachioplasty and VASER surgery

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Tripoint Lake Health in Concord, Ohio Dr Vanek performs Brachioplasty and VASER Lipo surgery.

Are your Arms Bothering You?- As short sleeve weather approaches the loose skin and excess fullness of the arms will become more difficult to camouflage with bulky clothing.  Patients with good skin tone can be candidates for Arm Vaser, which can dramatically improve the contour and appearance of the arm diameter in s few short days of recovery.  A 4mm incision is sited over the elbow near the crease and another in the axilla for optimum post op concealment.  Vaser ultrasound energy is delivered through the two small incisions via a titanium probe passed under the skin.  The skin is stimulated to tighten as the fat layer is liquefied selectively.  No compression is needed after the first day.  The incisions are dressed with a steri-strip.  For patients with heavier arms or lots of excess skin, the Vaser technique can be combined with an arm lift or “brachioplasty” technique to facilitate shrinking of the excess tissue not addressed by surgical removal alone.  Exercise can be resumed for the larger procedure in 2 to 3 weeks.  Either procedure allows you to shower the next day.

PS  Vaser patients have permanent removal of subcutaneous fat.
