This 48 year old painter from Northeast Ohio, noticed his changing eyes and heaviness of his brows that made him look older than he felt.  His wife is some years younger and they both thought that he would look great with a change of his tired appearance. Many people begin to notice drooping around their brow and cheeks during their mid-thirties. As they age it becomes more prominent. A forehead lift, or brow lift, is designed to treat this by removing or reshaping the muscles and tissue above the eye. This minimally invasive procedure is performed by making short incisions behind the hairline, either with or without an endoscope. A brow lift is often performed in conjunction with other procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), facelift, or a chemical peel. The result can be a face that appears years younger.

Angle 1

Dr. Vanek and this patient discussed many factors when determining whether or not a forehead lift was appropriate for him.  He underwent an endoscopic brow lift with lower lid blepharoplasty. His lower lid had some laxity that required a suspension procedure called a canthopexy.  This restored the tone of the lower lid to help in making the cosmetic result longer lasting as well as a nice shape of his eyes.  The incision is usually placed just behind the hairline, to minimize visibility of scars. The incision runs from ear to ear over the top of the forehead. For a receding hairline, the incision may be made just in front of the hairline to prevent pulling the hairline back farther. Bald patients may have the incision at mid scalp in an inconspicuous location. This skin is lifted to allow access to the muscles that are trimmed and reshaped. Excess fat and skin is also removed. The incision is closed with stitches or clips. Some patients prefer endoscopic surgery, which uses several small incisions rather than one large one. Endoscopic surgery is performed with the aid of a small camera that is inserted under the skin. This type of surgery is not appropriate in all cases, but can be a good alternative for people who may have problems with scarring.

His restrictions were that he was not allowed to lift more than a gallon of paint for about 2 weeks and then  he had no restrictions.  He used eye drops for a couple of weeks because he worked in a dusty environment.  He returned to work in about 10 days and loves his result!  He has come back frequently to provide us opportunity to have his photos taken.
