This 68 year old Concord, Ohio Executive wished to have a more refreshed look and less tired eyes.  He did not want to “look different” after plastic surgery.  He is seen here ONE DAY after his surgery!  He underwent a lower blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) under sedation conditions at the Mentor Medical Campus.  He received Versed and Demerol and was perfectly comfortable for the procedure that improved his tearing problem and improved his overall appearance.

This patient had some cysts on his eyelid area that were removed surgically at the same time.  His extra skin and the loose muscle of his lower lid were suspended into a more youthful position that will have longevity of outcome.  He had some bowing of his lids that required some analysis and a specific lid shortening procedure that improves eye hygiene as well as the appearance.  When the eye is analyzed in neutral position the lid position relative to the bottom of the iris is sometimes too loose.  With age, genetics, sun damage, etc., the laxity occurs like a clothes-line that has too many heavy wet clothes on it.  The “bowing” that occurs can be improved with a lid shortening procedure called a Khount-Szymenowski procedure, which “shortens the clothes line.” This problem when recognized by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon is usually covered by insurance.  The lid refreshing procedure is cosmetic and is performed at the same time with the same recovery.

As this patient’s follow ups occur we will refresh his photographs and show you the results that he enjoyed from the first day.  His wife said I took 15 years off his appearance!  He was comfortable from the first day and used some eye drops for about a week to help lubricate his eyes. His sutures were removed in the 6th day after surgery and I had him refrain from heavy exercise for 2 weeks.
